Amedee Lighthouse
The Amedee Lighthouse is an iron lighthouse located in on Amedee island.
Amedee island is 24 km away from Noumea, New Caledonia.
The lighthouse is one of the tallest lighthouses in the world measuring 56 meters tall (247 steps).
The Amedee lighthouse is the first metallic lighthouse constructed in France.
The metal components were made by Rigolet in North-East Paris in 1862 and the tower was constructed in
Paris
as a demonstration.
The metal components were then disassembled into pieces and transported to New Caledonia for construction.
It's light signals the entrance to the passage of Boulari, one of the natural passages in the reef surrounding New Caledonia.
